a curse has been lifted
"i still have a love for you"
August 5, 2026
the curse was lifted just over a month ago, when i flew home for a job interview and in the duration i was back, met up with my ex, someone i considered to be a ghost of my past. except he was not a ghost at all, and it was all too evident how much hurt had lingered between the two of us. it was also apparent that although this was the first time we'd seen each other in person since December of 2024 (a momentous month that led to the making of this quiet blog, dare i say), there was a type of love that remained. the curse has been lifted because i no longer care what happens next. there's no more curse because i know that whatever happens to the two of us, i know that this is a love that will last forever. we don't need to speak it or see it. it just is.
i'm very thankful it happened. of course, The Odyssey spoke to me because of this very reunion. we are both on Odysseys of our own, as Odysseus's ourselves, and we will embark on our destinies. he just started his journey in a new era of his life. i'm about to find my quest, too.
and there's less than a month left before i get to go home for the next year, or however long i'm in Los Angeles. i've been waiting a long time for this moment, and yet feel slightly less desperate for my return because i've been having fun here playing in pit orchestra for the first time! in a production of West Side Story. the musical and its numbers are my newest obsession.
i must deem it now appropriate to list out some of the recent miracles and firsts and side quests from this year-long adventure in Michigan here...
- Played in pit orchestra for the first time (so so SO fun), and Bernstein at that
- Became friends with a fellow budding musicologist and a game scholar
- Redefined myself and lifted a curse
- Updated parts of my wardrobe
- Interviewed high-profile conductors and one of them followed me on social media
- Got a freelance contributor and music critic position for a national music publication!
